John Craig
Chief Executive
John leads Care City as Chief Executive and is recognised as an expert in innovation in health and care. He leads Care City’s development and many of its projects and provides innovation support to partners across the integrated care system. In the summer, he published A Healthy Living, drawing together stories from across Care City’s work to enhance care.
John is an experienced strategist, entrepreneur, writer, speaker and facilitator. He has led complex, ambitious projects at Care City, from two Test Bed programmes for NHS England and the Office for Life Sciences to work with NELFT for InnovateUK to automate and optimise scheduling in District Nursing. John joined Care City as Chief Executive in October 2016. Since then, from atrial fibrillation pathway to social prescribing to services to tackle loneliness and isolation, Care City has made a difference at scale for East London.
Prior to joining Care City, John worked as an advisor to Shelter and Stonewall and the UN Development Programme. Until 2015, he spent five years leading Innovation Unit, an independent non-profit that develops radically better, low-cost public services. He has also worked as a Policy Advisor at the Cabinet Office and at the think-tank, Demos, as a senior researcher. Throughout these twenty years, he always focused on the transformation of public services.
