Testing begins as part of the Care City Test Bed
There is no shortage of innovation in the NHS, however often the desired reach or impact is not achieved due to innovations being piloted in isolation. The Test Bed approach looks to turn this on its head through testing a combination of technologies alongside new approaches to service delivery, with support from service users and system partners, to deliver better outcomes for patients.

In January 2016, Care City was selected as one of five national Health and Social Care Test Beds, and the only one in London. The Care City Innovation Test Bed aims to promote healthy ageing across a million-strong population in North East London, through improving the wellbeing and resilience of older people with long term conditions, older people with dementia, and carers.

And we've already started!

At the end of July a group of six clinicians, including occupational therapists and geriatricians, were trained to use one of the Care City Test Bed innovations, Kinesis.

Kinesis, is a mobility and gait analysis tool that better predicts people who are at risk of having a fall. Over the next two months it will be tested in three falls services across Barking, Havering and Redbridge. Through this initial testing, we will be developing our understanding of how these tools can support clinicians to personalise the care they give, and to measure improvements.

In the future Care City will extend this test to other settings including extra care and community pharmacies, as part of a package of interventions to reduce avoidable falls and admissions.
